Welcome to Shop Talk, where we chat about everything from the business processes and procedures you swear by to how you handle tough situations (like letting go of a client) to what gets you up on Monday morning. Give us a sneak peek into your business and let yourself inspire (and be inspired by!) our community.

You consider yourself a resourceful, intelligent business woman. You know that all answers are just a Google search away. So, do you spend your time finding the answers to your questions (like how to code in CSS or how to use Quickbooks) or do you outsource these parts of your business, knowing that someone else can do it more efficiently?

  1. After reading The 4 Hour Workweek, I was on a mission to outsource outsource outsource. I learned a few things during my personal outsourcing challenge- including that I’m insanely picky ha! That part prompted me to put guidelines into place about all my likes, dislikes, best practices, etc.

The bottom line for me is that I will outsource if it’s something I don’t consider myself savvy at (like coding) but will try to learn at least a bit along the way (like some HTML here and there). I like to be component is many areas, but am fine with not being an expert in all of them!

Agreed on the being insanely picky. I have a hard time letting go of control. Interesting about your “likes, dislikes, best practices…” Would love to see an example of it.

I haven’t read it yet but I know I need to. I say outsource anything that is going to take you too many hours to figure out. The way I decide is I look at my hourly rate and figure out how much $ it would take me to do it myself vs. how much I would pay someone.
